Winter Weekend Getaways

With this new year comes new adventures and possibilities. And with winter still in full gear, here are 5 winter weekend getaway places that you are sure to love!

Breckenridge, Colorado

If you love the snow, this city is a great winter weekend getaway to explore. This small city is unique with it’s Victorian mining town roots. It is nestled in a valley with several mountains of excellent skiing available. There are many activity options, both for kids and adults, within walking distance of each other. Breckenridge (or nearby resorts) has snowmobile rentals, carriage rides, snowcat tours, ice/snow sculpture contests, snowshoe hiking, indoor and outdoor ice skating and much more. Some favorite things to do include taking the gondola up to the base of peak 8 and sipping hot chocolate while watching the ski slopes.

Page, Arizona

Antelope Canyon is the highlight of the area, but it gets incredibly busy at Upper and Lower Antelope Canyon. However, during the winter time, it’s still just as gorgeous while way less crowded. You can also explore other slot canyons around. If you love more of an outdoor weekend getaway, this is a great option!

Salt Lake City, Utah

Salt Lake City Utah is another great ski destination. With four world-class ski resorts right within the city limits, you are never more than forty minutes from Salt Lake’s famous powdery snow. You’ll find more snowfall here than at any other North American ski destination and the terrain offers challenging runs. Apart from skiing, City Creek Canyon is another area that has pedestrian-friendly trails that are open year-round. You can get the best of both first two options with this great winter weekend getaway location.

San Antonio, Texas

If you’re the type who wants to get away from the brutal cold during the winter, San Antonio, Texas is an option worth looking into with its moderate Southern climate and charming atmosphere. It is the first charted civil settlement in Texas, so you can be sure there’s a lot to do and see while you’re there. The Alamo is a historic Spanish fortress founded in the 18th century that was a significant symbol during the Texas Revolution. Another point of attraction is the San Antonio Riverwalk. With the temperature generally staying above 60 degrees on the coldest of days, this is a great weekend getaway for those who don’t want to be freezing.

St. Augustine, Florida

Another warmer option for a weekend winter getaway is St. Augustine, Florida. It not only encompasses some amazing beaches that are great for relaxing and sandcastle making, but it also has a great history to keep almost anyone interested. Being nicknamed the Nation’s Oldest City, it has a wide variety of attractions and restaurants.
